Seen // Sounds: Dinowalrus x Webster Hall NYC

Left Bank caught up with psychedelic synth-rock band Dinowalrus at their show earlier this week at Webster Hall, as they (along with Eyelids) opened up for The Charlatans UK.

This was my first time catching the Brooklyn band in action and after a few minutes in, I definitely  left my predictable hipster outpost near the bar to stand closer to the stage to better see // hear them.  At certain points during the set they reminded me of some of my favorite 80’s bands- that dark post punk bass line coming through pretty strong- at other times their sounds came off more folky // indie rock.

Turns out though, DINOWALRUS has been around for a while. The lead vox // guitarist started the group in 2008, and they played some local and regional shows with the likes of Javelin, Surfer Blood, Health, Real Estate, Screaming Females, A Place to Bury Strangers (whom I love), Crystal Stilts, and Titus Andronicus. After evolving through line-up and songwriting changes, the group has progressed considerably since their sophomore album released in 2012, and its evident in the music and persona that they give off currently.

Listen to some of their tracks here or catch them on Spotify.

P.S. The Charlatans were fucking fantastic. But, you didn’t really need me to tell you that, did you?
