Sounds: Kate Renegade // Bow & Arrow

Front woman Steph Maieritsch’s voice is a divine mix of Angel Olson and Pat Benatar, paired perfectly by the support of the rock-driven sensibilities of her skilled bandmates.

Not throwing shade to the all-male bands but there is something really powerful and empowering when a female-fronted band–with explosive and engaging vocals and lyrics to match–comes around and gut punches us. (Also I’m pretty sure I just went through the exact story the lyrics suggest).

Which brings me to Chicago four piece, Kate Renegade, and their debut track ‘Bow & Arrow’ off their upcoming album, New Unquiet Life. It’s a gorgeous mix of Pretenders-esque vocals with Joan Jett ‘get the fuck out of my way, I have something to say’ … exactly what is needed. Don’t ever change Kate Renegade.

The lyricism deftly explores the nuances of womanhood and the complexities of being caught between a past and future self.

Been there. Still there.

Listen to the killer track ‘Bow & Arrow’ below.

Kate Renegade just finished recording with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio, and plans to release its new album in the spring of 2018, and support the release with live shows, so watch this space.
