Sounds: Flashes // Infinites

I’m not going to go as far as to say that I’m moody or angsty, but this shoegaze // noise pop track by Flashes is hitting all of the right places this afternoon. It’s all sound and atmosphere, with a beautiful melody that sounds as though they are singing you a lullaby.

The Cornwall-based 5-piece has wildly eclectic tastes, taking influence from 80’s pop, 90’s grunge and millennial electronic trickery, and have drawn comparisons to everyone from Slowdive and The Cure to Dinosaur Jr. Which, you can’t listen to this track and not hear Slowdive.

After several guitar-heavy releases a lengthy writing period in 2014 excitingly gave birth to a collection of new songs leaning in a more electronic and quieter direction. During the summer of 2015 the band began meticulously recording and piecing together these new songs in an abandoned chapel.

Before we get to the track, don’t let the 6 minutes turn you away. It’s an aural journey that you end up taking with yourself. Close your eyes if you have to and let the kaleidoscopic and expansive track bring you both in and out of this world. No, I’m not on drugs. But really thats what Flashes does to you. It’s the shoegaze jam-band.

Listen to Infinites below and see if your day doesn’t get better.
