Sounds: Cuesta Loeb // Out Of

“Could you teach me how to climb into my mind and make it right/i’ll make the sacrifice into the skies/i’m running out of time”

Best Coast and Cocteau Twins had a baby and its out of this world. Introducing y’all to Cuesta Loeb, in all of their airy vocals and gritty bass lines glory.

Cuesta Loeb is the solo project of Christina Cuesta Loeb, who you guessed it, dropped her first name for the purpose of this project. They took a break from releasing music last year, due to a death in the family, and are back and ready to release their debut album sometime over the summer. The first single is dedicated to (and directed to) her father, who passed in late July.

Through the aftermath and grief, she has immersed herself in the music, writing and recording their debut full-length album and playing tastemaker shows like KCRW presents “School Night.” UK Indie label, Fierce Panda, took notice and released their single “Dive” earlier this year.

For this track, Cuesta and Blake Straus teamed up and co-wrote about the loss of a loved one—Straus also produced the track, and added some of his mesmerizing electric guitar. Her sister Lizzy joined forces in 2017 for the live Cuesta Loeb shows, along with co-production, and is featured on guitar, vocal textures and harmonies.

“This past year has been a nightmare, just so unsettling and has left me with so many unanswerable questions. This song is a conversation with my dad, trying to reconcile my feelings in the wake of his passing.” – Cuesta

I’m incredibly gutted that this is the reason that we are sharing this track but it’s beautiful and has so much depth and poetry to it. Grief is very hard and personal, and the strength that Cuesta Loeb shows in sharing this intimate look into their lives is not lost on us. RIP to your papa sweet Cuesta, and all the best with your album release x.
