When I first heard Western Automatic I thought, “thank GOD. American Football is finally making more music and branching out.” But they’re so much more.
The Chicago-based indi-rock/pop band shares dreamy instrumentals with tight, wildly on point four-part harmony. I can hear a Band of Horses influence on their grand crashing crescendos, but there’s a little bit of post-punk quality to their vocals. Just a little bit of anger in the voice goes a long way. Staring at the Sun is a flawless piece of indi-rock.
