Sounds: Death Valley Girls // Disaster (Is What We’re After)
·2 min read
I may fall asleep in the middle of posting this, but a promise is a promise. And I promised to get this track up. It’s also so loud and in charge, that there’s no way in hell I’m going to fall asleep while writing this.
I just need to take a moment and say FUCKING IGGY POP IS IN THIS VIDEO.
oh, sorry you need to wipe your eyes // clean your glasses?
FUCKING IGGY POP. IM DEAD.
Iggy Pop is a god of the underworld. And, if Iggy Pop likes your music, that’s something to celebrate, because, let’s be honest, Iggy doesn’t like all that much. So I am both awed (and very jealous) that Iggy likes the Death Valley Girls enough to star in their video for “Disaster (Is What We’re After)”, a punk rock burner that owes plenty to the sound and style made famous by the Stooges.
Hi Iggy, it’s me Kristyn, I love your work.
It’s a pretty safe bet that if you can get Iggy Pop to appear in your clip, the world is going to pay attention. “Disaster (Is What We’re After)” is such a scalding track that music fans were surely going to notice it no matter how the Death Valley Girls chose to promote it – but Iggy’s participation certainly helped speed things up. Because, FUCKING IGGY.
The clip is the creation of 22-year-old Los Angeles filmmaker Kansas Bowling, who was determined to pair the music of the Death Valley Girls with her tribute to the Warhol classic. Iggy Pop’s involvement came to her in a dream – and we’re pleased to announce that her dream came true.
I’m going to go ahead and dream now that I’ve finished this post. But let’s just be clear, Kansas, you’re the best damn dreamer in town.
For the rest of us (hi Mr. Pop) watch their video for “Disaster (Is What We’re After)” …
