The one-man sonic assault Mark Hex bursts through your speakers with his signature post-punk, “Billy Bragg in a k-hole” sound on “Hungry American.” Heavy and droning, with drums that sound like he’s beating on a trash can in an empty warehouse (in the best way possible), “Hungry American” is about as far from easy listening as you can imagine, but, damn, I love listening to it.
It’s really suiting my mood today, too. I’m a little bit on edge, with too much pent-up energy and not enough room to burn it all off. “Hungry American” feels like it’s a slightly overcaffeinated and on the verge of spiraling out of control, too.
