Oakland, CA’s Chives Viria blew me away with his latest release, “Fragment Peach.” All reverb-soaked and oozing with delay, “Fragment Peach” found the sweet spot between rhythmic and melodic, tucked away between a synth line that just won’t quit.
I love the hint of darkness beneath the mellowness, too. It draws me in and makes me think of Lana Del Rey’s “Ride,” the razor-sharp darkness barely concealed beneath images of freedom and riding off into the desert on the back of a motorcycle. Maybe it’s just the mood I’m in, but I feel like there’s some melancholic undertone that I’m loving, too. Either way, I’ve listened to it about five times, and my dog and I both give it our seal of approval.
