The Perfect Mess describes themselves as “Lo-Fi Hi-Fi,” and the second I hit play on “We Take Control” I knew what they meant. It’s washed out Lo-Fi with the grand melodies of a pop ballad. The dichotomy between crunched bedroom tunes and the notes of a big orchestra is delicious.
Niklas Bohm and Mikko Viitala make some seriously hypnotizing stuff. Put this in your speakers late at night when you’re curled up with your ashtray and a glass of wine. Better yet, wait for a good rain too.
The Perfect Mess is releasing the full new album “Magical Tragical” later this year. Until then, “We Take Control” and a few other singles will have to get you through.
