Sounds: Sandy Blue // The Valley

Denmark’s Sandy Blue just accomplished something incredible: they’ve created and released the perfect indie-rock track to kick off 2019.

Featuring soaring, ambient guitar licks, driving acoustic, and vocals reminiscent of The Smiths’ Morrisey (if he were in a good mood, at least), “The Valley” is equal parts light and joyful and heavy with nostalgia. It feels like the kind of song you’d sing around a bonfire with the people you love most, saying goodbye to the past and welcoming in a new chapter; it’s bittersweet, but exhilarating. There’s anticipation and hope, climbing higher than the fear, and it gives me goosebumps, especially when the song breaks down into the circular chant over the bridge. Or maybe I’m projecting my own feelings into this song. Either way, “The Valley” is one of the best songs I’ve heard so far this year.
