Preston-based alternative instrumentalist, Mog Stanley, has just released his latest single, “Hoosegow,” and I looooove it.
I grew up listening to blues – the original masters of it, deep down in the Delta, and the long-haired hippies who took it and transformed it into a rolling, electrifying experience. Mog Stanley blends the haunting, ethereal sounds of slide guitar over a drum beat that grows in intensity.
Halfway through the song, though, there’s a shift in sound; Stanley blends in pop sensibility with reverb-soaked vocals and a driving rhythm section. It’s catchy and hypnotic and – somehow – doesn’t throw listeners with the abrupt change.
