Sounds: Melt Mars // Memory Lane

Melt Mars, the independent ambient-rock spaceghost project created by the mind of Anaheim-resident Brian Ortiz, dropped “Memory Lane” this week as part of the band’s upcoming debut EP Gimmicks. The album’s release date is still to be determined.

After recruiting drummer Juan Norato to record, guitarist Darnell Calderon, and bassist Favian joined up a few years ago to create a full live act that surely stimulates the dive bars around SoCal.

Take me nowhere tonight, I’ll be your lowly ride, Tell me I’m your disease, so you can hold a release.

Listening to this track made me think of driving on the California coastline at sunset or an early morning hangover after a party that ran too long. Fans of the Arctic Monkeys’ somber B-side “Riot Van” off their 2006 debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not might feel a tinge of nostalgia that encourages you to exhale.
