I had the absolute pleasure of spending the morning listening to Paris-via-Chicago’s Hannah Judson‘s new record, Becoming. It’s a little Alanis Morissette with a twist of Lucinda Williams, set against a post-rock bohemian Paris soundscape (my heart is ready to explode just writing those words!).
After getting her start in the Chicago alternative scene that surrounded the School of the Art Institute and Wicker Park in the 90s and early 2000s, Hannah combines influences from the Chicago and Paris scenes to create a sound that’s unlike anything I’ve heard before. Becoming, her new record, was a while in the making as Hannah “shed past styles and creative restraints,” slowly growing and evolving into a place where ethereal vocals and lyricism meld with driving rock.
