Gesserit, the latest evolution and moniker of Brooklyn-based musician Eliza Black (formerly of Fruit & Flowers), has arrived and is ready to dominate. Eliza Black has always been a strong presence throughout the Brooklyn local music scene, playing in multiple bands and making vocal pop-up appearances in other bands’ shows, but with her latest incarnation, it looks as though she is ready to spread her wings and spread much farther from the Brooklyn music scene.
Gesserit’s song “Silence,” premiering today on Left Bank Magazine, begins with a hard hitting snare and quickly draws you in with swarming chorus guitars and a solid, confident bass line. Her swooping, almost country-sounding vocal stylings are reminiscent of singers like Neko Case and Jenny Lewis while having a distinct sound all her own. Her lyrics are dark yet hopeful: “You’re living for yourself / Well, you’re not the only one.”
You can catch Gesserit’s release show TONIGHT at Our Wicked Lady. Until then, close your eyes, hit play, and have a listen to Gesserit’s first single “Silence,” premiering here on Left Bank Magazine:
