Sounds x Premiere: Madam West // Strongest Son

New York’s fav psych-soul band, Madam West, showed up on my radar a few weeks ago, and I can sum up my thoughts in four words: I can dig it.

If their hit single, “Strongest Son,” wasn’t groovy enough, they’ve released a brand new video to go along with it: an apocalypse party shot entirely in a bathroom.

Featuring bathtub picnics, cocktails, bird creates, and band members in gas masks as World War II-era fighter jet and atomic test site footage is projected on shower tiles, the music video is a trip to a dark, violent – but strangely psychedelic – world.

“The lyrics to this song have been kicking around since the 2016 election, and the feeling of shock so many of us had at Trump winning. Now that he has the nuclear codes, the video portrays a group of friends in the middle of some kind of atomic event, using a bathroom as a bunker to party in—and they all completely lose their minds.” lead singer Sophie Chernin says of the video.
