Boston’s haunting three-piece Lady Pills just dropped their latest single, “Moving,” from their upcoming album, and it’s the complete opposite of the music I’ve heard lately. Subtle, ethereal, and delicate, there’s a dark undertone to the track that raises the hair on the back of your neck while the duo’s harmonies float, ghost-like, above it all.
There’s a certain intensity that builds, slowly and out of sight, until the bridge hits. Then, the song breaks into a heavy rock progression, guitar wailing while the drums crash. It draws you in, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, it changes course at a breakneck speed, then stops altogether. In a word? It’s a thrill-ride.
