Sounds x Premiere: Gold Light + Snakemusk // One Thing After Another

I’ve been on a real folk kick lately: Emmylou Harris, Joni Mitchell, First Aid Kit, Tyler Ramsey. I think it’s the spring weather; it’s brighter and warmer, and I’ve got a constant craving for something just as bright and warm.

Gold Light + Snakemusk‘s newest single, “One Thing After Another,” satisfies that craving. It’s a mix of all the great duos: Johnny and June, Gram and Emmylou, The Everly Brothers, with a fresh newness in the jangling piano parts and the steady acoustic guitar. The vocals of Gold Light – better known as singer-songwriter Joe Chang – and Snakemusk – non-binary stick and poke tattoo artist and folk singer Beau Romeo – amble along, winding together as if they were walking down a dirt road hand in hand.

“If ain’t one thing, it’s another.

If it ain’t that thing, it’s the other

Next thing you know, the whole ship’s going under.”

Based in Asheville, the duo travels from city to city, sharing music and doing guest residencies for tattooing. The root-bound music is as easy and rambling as their travels, and all I want to do is go along for the ride.
