Newfoundland singer-songwriter Tim Baker is back and better than ever following a hiatus with Hey Rosetta! and a solo tour of the alternative and odd venues of North America: book stores, living rooms, a ski lodge, and a rink bar during a curling tournament. The result of these intimate shows and the often unconventional – if not, at time, challenging – circumstances resulted in some of the best songwriting I’ve heard in a while.

His latest track, “All Hands,” is equal parts catchy and emotive, Baker’s vocals soaring high above the folk-rock soundscape. It brings to mind songwriters of the 70s and the warm, golden light of the Laurel Canyon scene, blended with the freshness of modern balladeers like Father John Misty.

Bottom line? It’s on my spring playlist, and I guarantee it’ll be on yours, too.
