It Was All A Dream at Radiant Space

Once again Radiant Space in Los Angeles is going to be the place to be to see some really amazing art. This time around it is Pro-Skaters who also happen to be very talented Street Artists. The show kicks off with an Opening Reception June 15th 8-10pm for the General Public. You might remember my interview BLIKEME from earlier. No?! Well, read it now, and then you can continue. She’ll be part of the show.

Skateboarding has always been about living life in the streets and so it goes hand-in-hand with Street Art and the culture that surrounds it. For a growing number of Pro-Skaters, there is a deep need to express themselves through the creation of art. This show highlights a few of those who have come together as friends for a common good and to celebrate how precious life can be. Last October, Sammy Baptista retired professional skateboarder, was seriously burned in an accident suffering 2nd to 4th degree burns on over 40 percent of his body. He was in a medically induced coma for 16 days. All of this while his wife, Stacy was 9 months pregnant. Sammy is resilient, though, and this show is in part a fundraiser for children who suffer from burns and need care.

RADIANT SPACE PRESS RELEASE:

“Pro-skater Samy Baptista came out of a coma with the desire to put together an art show from the visions he saw from his hospital bed. Baptista is best known for “Fulfill the Dream,” one of the most famous skate videos of all time. This film became a stamp on the shift of skateboarding, directed and starring Chad Muska featuring Steve Olsen, Peter Smulick, Toan Nguyen, Jesse Silvey, Aaron Snyder, Brandon Turner and Baptista.

Pulling back to his roots and calling on old and new friends, Chad Muska, Oscar Meza, Kris Markovich, Thatcher, and Blikeme share their artwork along with a video installation by Michael Jon Leonard, to tell Sammy Baptista’s spiritual awakening story. This show opens on June 15th to kick off Skate Day on June 21st. Events throughout the exhibition will ensue. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Burn Foundation.”
