I need to watch what I say here as this track premiere goes to a very talented, and young artist. I can be known for saying a bad word here or there, but hi Lenkie’s parents! No bad words here (also, if you’re reading this, your daughter is soooo talented).
Lenkie is a 16-year-old artist from Johannesburg, South Africa, with a soulful voice that is reminiscent of Indie Arie, or Corinne Bailey Rae—strong and hopeful, lively but dynamic. “Flower Girls” is the track that I wish I had when I was younger and having a tough time, and it is beyond impressive that Lenkie understands—and can express—pain and also power in such a moving way. The entire track has momentum, in that catchy-pop-song kind of way, but the soulful vocals make it so much more than a pop song; it’s a mantra.
Darling, don’t be shy, there’s no one else here to hear your cries but me, and I’m listening to you.
Lenkie may be getting started in her career, but let me tell you something, this one is someone to watch. Listen to “Flower Girls” below and for the love of God dear readers, stop crying. We know, it’s beautiful, but get a grip on yourself.
