Sounds: Mangled Jangles // “Cost of Living”

The Los Angeles-based band Mangled Jangles has entwined folk (or blues-esque) songwriting with tropical indie rock in their new tune “Cost of Living.” The lyrics tell a gotdamn story about love, chasing dreams, and the price that you have to pay for happiness or contentment.

It’s hard to overlook the incredible songwriting in their tune, although the instrumentals give you enough layered dynamism to try to distract you. The guitars, bass, keys and drums play well together; the track could almost be purely instrumental. And what happens is that you get a tune that feels as though it was written on an acoustic guitar and given the full-studio experience. “Cost of Living” is a well-done indie rock tune that is full of good vibes and great storytelling.
