Video: Automatic // Calling It

It’s time to put a little flavor (and badassness) into 2020 with this killer track and video from synth-punk trio Automatic. Made up of Izzy Glaudini (synths, vocals), Lola Dompé (drums, vocals) and Halle Saxon (bass, vocals), the new band is actually made up of post-punk royalty—Lola is the daughter of Bauhaus drummer Kevin Haskins.

While that’s enough to get your ears (name-dropping normally has that effect), the band is able to entirely hold their own—with or without being tied to one of the greatest bands of all time.

The recently-signed (Stones Throw Records) LA-based band came together through LA’s DIY band scene and started jamming together in 2017. Gaining notoriety for their explosive live shows, they were invited to share the stage with bands like Surfbort, Wand and Flatworms. Casual.

They named themselves Automatic after a song by the Go-Go’s — the only all-female band to have written and played instruments on an album to reach #1 in the US.

Their first single ‘”Calling It’” is all about being adrift in a wide-open space and the desire to rip it all up and start over. Which is kind of what being at the start of a new year feels like. Reminiscent of NYC’s Public Practice (who they are playing with later this year), with some Talking Heads-esque instrumentals, seeing what Automatic does/creates this year is something that I’m looking forward to.

Catch them on tour this spring.
