5 Reasons Why Every Woman Should Try CBD

Being a woman is awesome, but not always easy. Since my mid-twenties, I’ve battled several health issues, mostly related to hormonal imbalances. Over the past few years, my anxiety seemed to skyrocket, just as my tolerance for many things plummeted. As you can imagine, my period symptoms have also gotten progressively worse– I swear, I gain a whole five pounds before my period these days. My premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is out of control. Sometimes, I find myself wanting to have a baby, just to get angry and yell at his/her father. Not only am I on an emotional war path, I’m also SUPER fertile. No fun. My period had no chill, whatsoever, until I tried CBD. Since then, I haven’t looked back.

So, what is CBD anyway?

Cannabidiol (CBD), is a chemical compound derived from the cannabis plant. It is a naturally occurring substance. Unlike its peer, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it’s not psychoactive– sorry, stoners.

For the first time ever, I skipped the ibuprofen for my menstrual cramps, and opted for some CBD oil instead. I have been so pleased by its results and health benefits, which span far beyond making period symptoms less miserable. In addition to being a PMS warrior, here are some other reasons why every woman should try CBD.

It helps with acne and other skin issues.

CBD has been proven to reduce inflammation, aiding in the treatment of acne and redness. CBD oil is usually combined with hemp seed oil, which contains vitamins A, C, and E. Every single one of these ingredients is great for your skin: vitamin C for the glow, vitamin E for hydration, and vitamin A for skin clarity and immunity.  In just a two-week period, I have seen a difference in my skin’s natural hydration level, which in turn has reduced the severity of my breakouts (the drier the skin, the more oil/sebum the skin produces, causing breakouts). I have dry skin, and since I started putting CBD oil in my smoothies and juices, I find that my skin doesn’t immediately feel or look parched after I wash it; I can go a couple of hours without needing to apply moisturizer.

Got anxiety? CBD will chill you out.

Don’t you hate anxiety? It creeps up on you when you least expect it, and some of its symptoms (pulling your hair, biting your nails, and tapping your feet) are so subconscious that you may not even be aware that you are anxious. Since I’ve started incorporating CBD into my wellness regimen, I have been more in control of my mood. As a result, I am less responsive to things that normally send me into a frenzy, such as waking up to 50 notifications every single day. According to Healthline, CBD is able to influence our brain’s receptors for serotonin– a neurotransmitter that regulates both our mood and social behavior. There have been studies to prove its effectiveness in treating anxiety and depression.

It helps you sleep like a baby.

A CBD-infused bath bomb was actually my first introduction the wonderful world of CBD. The calming results led me to exploring other products, like the oil, but first, let me tell you about this CBD bath bomb! If you’re anything like me, your anxiety likes to pile up at night, right when you should be winding down before bed. Often times, my mind does not shut off, causing my body to become restless at bedtime. I used the bath bomb one night in my shower. Shocking, right? Well, I wanted to ease into it, and I did not want it to fully dissolve in one use. So, I actually let it dissolve a bit on my exfoliating gloves and used my body wash to create a lather– game-changing. I don’t remember anything after my head hitting the pillow that night. I was so relaxed that getting out of bed the next morning was a struggle (in a good way), and it wasn’t even a Monday.

It’s an all-natural painkiller.

Over the past couple weeks, I’ve experienced menstrual cramps, headaches, and lower back pain. None of these pains have been a match for CBD. After consulting a friend about my lower back pain, I decided to finally give the Holmes Organics CBD Oil a try. It is  recommended that you take the oil internally, so I mixed it in my smoothie one morning after having an intense workout the night before. My typical soreness and lower back pain had diminished. What I love about the CBD oil is its virtual tastelessness. I’ve started putting it in other beverages, such as green juice and tea, and unlike my first love, ACV, it does not alter the taste.
