Sounds: Dismal Thinkings // Gone Away

Obsessed with this track by Seattle based alternative rock band Dismal Thinkings. A truly DIY outfit, Dismal Thinkings (guitarist and lyricist Isaac Evans, drummer Jacob Sloniker, and bassist Mylean Raeder) started in September of last year, and has v. quickly found their place in the local scene.

The track “Gone Away” is just really well done. Simply put. The vocals are spot on, the instrumentals compliment the vocals completely, the lyrics actually say a thing about a thing, and together you’ve got the perfect indie rock song. I get a lot of submissions that have one of these components done well (great lyics, not so great vocals; great instrumentals, lyrics don’t mean much). So when curating work that goes on Left Bank, I look for caliber—true artistic quality that is not only good, but fresh and hard-hitting, and that is what Dismal Thinkings provides.

Gone Away is one of the first songs that was written for the record and we think it encapsulates our journey both personally and musically in this period of our lives. It’s influenced by radical transition, the ache of change, and the excitement of new beginnings. It’s an internal Odyssey of sorts.

It’s emotional and infectious, no rules, unapologetic indie rock. And for the fact that they just officially started as a group less than a year ago, that’s damn impressive.
